Your Business is Only as BIG as Your Vision

Most SMALL BUSINESS owners wish to become BIG BUSINESS owners one day. In fact, that is the reason why they had set out in the world of business in the first place. However, somewhere in between, a majority of them close shops while the remaining few struggle to make it BIG. Ultimately, it is only a handful of entrepreneurs who taste real success, just the way they had imagined; and the others just stand still with their “me-too” enterprises. What happens in the process is all in the mind.

All business owners set an expectation as to what extent their business should grow. Many of them limit their business growth just by thinking “small”. Having a BIG vision and goal is the first step to create a BIG company.

You can also generate BIG ideas and visions, implement them, follow them through, and grow BIG. Here is how you can make sure that happens:

#1: Move out of your comfort zone

Are you scared of growing too BIG? Do you think you cannot handle the pressure and the demands that growing BIG puts on you and your business? Do you give up new ideas just because they are too time consuming, or too expensive, or too rigorous.

All these matters can be done away with, but the first thing that needs attention is your mind. The stakes are high and you cannot give up just because a thought sets off butterflies in your stomach. If you are clear about what you want to achieve then you have the power to make all the doors open up for you. In fact, all these external factors become inconsequential if you decide to take the BIG leap. Shake-off your inhibitions, open up your mind, and for a change, THINK BIG.

#2: Envision BIG audacious goals

Bill Gates’ vision was to put a personal computer in every household in the world. That was at a time when there were only a few thousand computers that were being used only for high-end data processing tasks. Now we are getting close to his vision with each passing day.

What is YOUR business goal? It could be in terms of number of employees, total revenue, number of clients, number of locations, and so on. For instance, it could be a 200-employee business, with $10 million revenue, 500 clients, and five locations within three years. It does not matter what the parameters of growth are, entrepreneurs must select their goals cautiously, as chances that their business will fall short of expectations, are very high.

Setting the right numbers is of critical importance, as you would plan everything accordingly in the quest to achieve those numbers.

#3: Plan for those BIG goals

Planning is the key that takes you from “thinking BIG” stage to “becoming BIG” stage.

When an entrepreneur thinks “small”, most of the plans right from the product or service, the business processes, and all the systems are designed to meet the size of the business that owner has in mind. Eventually, there is no scope for the business to grow bigger. It is interesting to see that many entrepreneurs blame external factors like economy, competition, market size as the reasons why their business growth is stalled.

In contrast, if the vision is BIG and the entrepreneur decides to build a large corporation from the very beginning, the foundation is laid accordingly. The structure of the product or services, business processes, and everything else is designed to meet the large demand in the future. Please note that this does not mean in any way that one should bypass the small test first. You must test your product or services in a smaller environment, fine tune it, and make it ready for the larger market. But, the key is the THOUGHT behind to make it BIG.

If you aim low, then all your plans would limit your growth, but if you aim BIG, then all the plans would move towards achieving your goals. If you want a $10 million company, shoot for $50 million. There is no harm in thinking BIG; it does not cost you anything.

#4: Don’t be satisfied with what seems “good enough”

If you set out for $10,000 profits and achieve $5,000, which you think is good enough, then think again. It means that somewhere inside, you are convincing your mind to believe that you don’t want to grow BIG. What needs changing, is your attitude towards what you achieve. “Good enough” is not enough. There is nothing wrong with aiming for the stars. If you are dissatisfied with your small achievements, then BIG success will surely follow.

#5: THINK BIG – ALL THE TIME: Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve. A slight change in your thought process can make you BIG. Expand your horizons with the power of your mind.
